All Saints Day in Lindau

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” ~ Confucius

Today is All Saints Day in Lindau, a town on a small island near the Eastern Shore of Lake Constance, where Germany, Switzerland and Austria meet. The cafés by the Lake are full of families and tourists enjoying the sunshine and various forms of coffee, tea and cakes or a late lunch.

I arrived on Sunday after a beautiful drive through the Alps from Trento. I was in Lindau for a few hours when I came to the Bregenz Festival last summer and wanted to return to explore. It seemed like a perfect place to plop down and work between the Pistis Sophia workshop in Italy last weekend and meetings in Zurich later this week.

I have plenty to do, but there is always time for a walk along the shore each morning. The fall leaves are still turning and the beauty of the lakeside filled with trees and old buildings with many towers create a fairy tale feel.  Indeed the Magturm Tower in the harbor has a Rapunzel braid lowered from the window.

I am continually amazed when Americans tell me that they are avoiding Europe because it is not safe. I travel throughout the United States by car. Not only are Italy, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands much safer, but from my experience, they seem much more human.

Being more human is something I aspire to be.
