This 6-pillar curriculum teaches the basic literacy we need to be personally and financially successful and to do so in a manner in which together we evolve a culture that supports the emergence of an advanced human civilization.
“Human beings everywhere have in them the capacity to create a high standard of living…. If you examine the economic history of the last 300 years it is easy to conclude that there is no absolute limit on world economic product…. The world economic pie is limited only by our imagination.”
~ Paul O’Neill, former CEO of Alcoa and Secretary of the Treasury (Micro-Credit Summit, 2002)
Catherine – I am so happy to hear that you are presenting to high school students! My heart has been for financial literacy since pensions started phasing out right around the time I started working. I’ve watched so many people I know go into their later years with nothing to show for all their hard work due to lack of even basic financial education. It’s hard to even get people to listen to Solari level topics when they are worried about not being able to afford dentures or figure out how they will live without a steady paycheck at 75 years old.
I’ve decided that my battlefield will be high schoolers before they even get out into the world. I’m presenting tomorrow to a group of high schoolers about what it’s like to be a CPA or even a staff accountant or bookkeeper. My goal in the next couple years is to start giving lectures on basic and advanced financial literacy to high schoolers. I’m already teaching my kids (17, 15, 13) these things, so it’s not a far jump to put it into course format.
Do you have a standard presentation that I could adapt? I’ve reached out to my financial writer friends for resources, but I want to make a really well rounded curriculum and would love all the input I can get from every angle.
Lena:
Good for you!
I did not keep a copy of what I presented. Will talk with the Young Builders team as to whether we could do something here. Great idea.
Catherine
Sounds good!
At minute 1:13 to 1:14 you both mention a concept that there is a new book out by Doug Casey’s partner (that the latter’s son, Max, did to add to useful skills rather than go to college. Folks should check it out. It took YEARS in the making. And it’s tested (by Max, who also has his own social channels (i think a substack).
