Reinvention of Everything! So, so true. I am doing that now at 73 years old. Now taking a class in Photoshop and hopefully start a Master Gardening class beginning in January 2026! What I love so much with Dr Farrell is the craft of Art. The brushes, the pigments, the light!
No one understands the complexity of mixing all these things together! That is ART! I love the intricacies of everything daily in my life that cannot be recreated, do you see when I use the ideas it says the exact word I was trying to think! ai stopped it in my mind!
In the first few minutes, Catherine said something absolutely critical. Manage your own assets. Great advice. So, anecdotally, my experience this has been this is a truism. We were redundancies in the late 1990s. My husband, strongly encouraged me to go back to school he didn’t ask to get retooled. I did so, by 2001, I finished a degree in engineering. At 38 in 2002, we ended up in So. Cal. with some household goods, a car on its last legs and debt. Today, we have no debt on the house/car/credit cards. We paid into the qualified retirement account G funds (e.g. Treasuries): TSP is $600K. But to this point only 18.75% of our “wealth”. The rest is in real assets and a partnership. That’s his job, he manages our assets. Fellow Solarians, think about how your wealth is built. Know what you own, why, and what it is worth. Think carefully about who is managing it. Black Rock and State Street manage all the funds in Thrift Savings Plan except the G fund. Now suddenly, they are offering to manage new asset classes for you, that you will NEVER own. The Executive Order 14330, titled Democratizing Access to Alternative Assets for 401(k) Investors August 7, 2025.
I really enjoy these rambling chats between Catherine and Joseph. It’s like having a cup of coffee with relatives just chatting at the dinning room table.
As an aside, I looked for adult conversion data to the Roman Catholic Church. Looks like it went from 150,000ish (2000-2015) to 200,000-220,000 (2000-2025). The last lustrum showing a larger uptick. Its is not uncommon to see entire families getting baptized or confirmed. Joseph thank you for pointing out the lunacy of the Church of England, it appears to be hell bent on going the way of The Episcopal Church USA. Where the TEC was 3.6 million in 1965 and is 1.5 million in 2025.
This episode was absolutely chock full of food for thought.
I have long been wondering about what’s going on in Antarctica (one of the big Unanswered Questions), but the clip showing the map of the Arctic from an alternative perspective has shifted my focus to the other side of the globe and opened up a completely new territory for me to look into and try to understand.
I loved Joseph’s wack-a-doodle theory about AI being the modern form of Babylonian tablets although I don’t think it’s wack-a-doodle at all. The more I think about it the more plausible and likely it seems.
On the subject of AI, I have a friend who is a director at a local savings bank in Germany. He’s responsible for marketing. He told me that he just made a brochure for the bank’s new marketing campaign. It took him 15 minutes to do what had previously taken the entire marketing department several weeks and several thousand euros to complete. He did it using an AI system on his laptop. No need for photographers. No need for models. No need to search out props or locations or clothing. It can all be done with a click of the mouse.
He said want to change the interior? No problem. Just click. Want to add a cat? No problem. Just click. Want to change the cat to a dog? No problem. Just click. Want to change the breed of the dog? No problem. Just click. Want to add a grandpa? No problem. Just click. Want to change the clothes or the hair color or the clothing style or the facial expressions or the ages of the people? No problem. Just click, click, click.
Upon hearing this I wondered what is going to happen to all of the photographers? What’s going to happen to all the graphic designers? What’s going to happen to all the models? They are all going to be replaced by AI.
Regarding digital ID, whenever I try to explain to someone the dangers of digital money and digital ID I usually get the standard “conspiracy theory” retort. Next time though I will relate the scenario of the local country commission. I expect that one will strike a chord and get through.
Regarding the story of CLOs, wasn’t that the same thing they did back in the early 2000s but rather than collateralizing loans they collateralized dodgy mortgages, thereby giving them a AAA rating and then sold them on to the pension funds?
