  1. Forgive me for just throwing this out there and completely off topic.

“Symphony No. 5: Ludwig Van Beethoven/Georg Solti Chicago Symphony Orchestra”

At the time of this recording, Sir Georg Solti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra were considered by many to be the finest orchestra in the world.

If you are very familiar with Beethoven’s 5th, you will notice there are subtle differences in the timing and arrangement to what you have heard before.

George Solti was an originalist and a purest… he didn’t agree with some of the license taken in tweaking Beethoven’s 5th by most conductors and orchestras. He thought it should be played exactly as it was originally scored.

This is one fantastic performance of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. TURN IT UP AND ENJOY.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE AT SOLARI, AND ALL THE SUBSCRIBERS

    1. December 17th is the 250th Anniversary of Beethoven’s Baptism. What a celebration this would have been this year. Tragedy in Vienna.

      1. Oh my…

I saw the original broadcast of this performance (lived in Evanston IL at the time) on Chicago Public TV in the year it was performed… interviews with Sir Georg Solti… rehearsal footage… and the end of the piece was the above performance in full. It was deeply enjoyable… even though it was a broadcast.

As I rewatched this prior to posting it… I could not help but wonder if we are watching the end of Western Civilization as we know it. I know it’s not a healthy thing to dwell on… better to have the radio tuned to WGRACE instead of WFEAR, always.

It makes the local neighborhood/community/town connections and collaborating with like minded folks we talk about on Solari, even more important than ever. Especially for those of us who remember the best of the late 1950s early 1960s, and the spirit of American life as it felt in that time.

The principles behind the best of what we are and have been are immutable and evergreen for sure.
