      1. Yes indeed Catherine, my thoughts exactly. Who determines the value & when?
         My grandparents went through this same kind of anguish and heartbreak, a century ago in California, when Los Angeles took the water rights from Bishop, CA and the Owens Valley. They lost their ranch, their business, not to mention friends. Frayed relationships with neighbors, as the real estate prices dropped. Even to this day there are people in that area, progeny who harbor hard feelings toward the greedy LA bureaucrats. (I’m being polite :).

         As Dutch lawyers represent Dutch farmers in collective bargaining on inter-generational land rights, could they ask for equity or profits from any future “smart cities”, underground bunkers, mining operations or related trade/transportation/supply routes which may or may not pass through Dutch farmland? If there is no future smart city planned for this farmland, then surely there would be no objections to including a financial derivative option for this possible-but-allegedly-unlikely scenario.
