“We’re building an authentic community where people can put down roots.”
~ Kay Sullivan
This week, a remarkable group of Young Builders —Solari’s pilot initiative to provide the next generation of leaders with the knowledge and tools they need to be successful in a changing world—will convene in Florida. The in-person gathering led by Ricardo Oskam would not be possible without the gracious support of John and Kay Sullivan, who are providing the venue at which the convocation will take place. John is also serving as an Expert Builder for the course, sharing his real estate expertise as a teacher and mentor.
The Sullivans are innovative developers who have created a 148-acre community called Winthrop, located in the Tampa Bay metropolitan area in Riverview, a suburb rated as one of the best places to live in Florida. The Sullivans’ vision for Winthrop particularly emphasizes “family-friendly” and “community-centric,” with the goal being to “infuse community” back into suburban life.
“Developers” barely begins to describe the Sullivans, however. At one time, Kay was chair of the Children’s Health Defense board. The couple also has a track record of supporting excellent political candidates, such as Representative Thomas Massie and former Congressman and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, as well as organizations that demonstrate “good stewardship of money that is donated to them.”
One of Kay’s favorite books is Holy Moments: A Handbook for the Rest of Your Life, a book that taps into the “universal longing to change the direction the world is heading in.” The Sullivans live the book’s life-changing principle—that “Some moments are holy. Some moments are unholy. And you get to decide.”
Catherine regularly reaches out to John and Kay for advice, insight, and inspiration. Ricardo, the Young Builders, and the Solari team thank the Sullivans for their leadership and generosity of both spirit and action.
