Joel Salatin
Pathways to Relocalization, Carbon Economy Educational Series, December 9th
Santa Barbara Central Library
The Flyer:
Joel Salatin, fulltime family farmer of the highly successful Polyface Farms, and recipient of the Heinz Award for Environmental Leadership, is one of the world’s leading advocates of farming and food relocalization.
Featured in Michael Pollan’s book, Omnivore’s Dilemma, and in the films FRESH and FOOD, Inc., Joel himself is the author of six books including Family Friendly Farming, Salad Bar Beef, and his latest, Everything I Want To Do Is Illegal. His speaking and writing reflect dirt-under-the-fingernails experience punctuated with mischievous humor.
He passionately defends small farms, local food systems, and the right to opt out of the conventional food paradigm.
This lecture is for ANYONE who EATS!
The Report from a Permaculturist in attendance:
Catherine:
You would of loved it ! 2 hours with Joel and the place was PACKED ! Standing room only. I got there early so I sat in the front row. He is like you and I, he put a bullet through his TV set !!! He called USDA = US DUH !!! He said in the USA there are 35 Million Acres of Lawn, saying “The most independent thing you can do is discover your own kitchen.”
