    Sam Dean imprisoned for posting stickers opposing COVID mask mandates

    Lieut. Col. (ret.) Sam Dean, a decorated Green Beret US Army officer, was arrested Friday evening, September 9, and incarcerated in the Tri-County Regional Jail pursuant to a warrant issued for his arrest by Judge Eric M. Schooley of Madison County, Ohio. Sam Dean is married and father to seven children.

    In March 2021, Sam placed two stickers, one on the back of a street sign and another on a curbside pickup box near the Plain City Public Library urging non-compliance with lockdowns and mask mandates. On this basis he was convicted of two misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and criminal mischief. His appeal of this conviction was denied in September 2022; his probation began on September 6. Sam was summoned to appear for a probation meeting on Friday, September 23, 2022.

    Sam has been diagnosed with PTSD and back disabilities related to his military service for which, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), the Supreme Court of Ohio policy and Madison County policy, he has a right to request & receive reasonable accommodations in the court systems. Madison County policy specifically states that coordination is initiated by the disabled person contacting the county’s appointed ADA Coordinator (who then coordinates with the court systems). His ADA accommodations include specifically that he be provided with a hard chair because of injuries sustained in the military, and that he be allowed to excuse himself momentarily in any situation where PTSD symptoms that might lead to an irrational response are triggered.

    More than 48 hours before Sam’s September 23, 2022 appointment, he asked Madison County Probation Officer Brandey Maynard who served as the ADA coordinator for her office and the scheduled meeting. Susan Thompson, the county-appointed ADA coordinator, was not available as she was on vacation. Since Sam could not be assured of accommodations for his disabilities, Sam sought to reschedule the probation meeting, but this request was denied.

    On September 23, 2023, Sam and his wife appeared in the probation office in London, Ohio, signed in, and brought documentation of the county court’s refusal to adhere to ADA legal requirements to show why he did not want to appear in the probation meeting without prior coordination for accommodations. Brandey Maynard then sought and received a bench warrant for Sam’s arrest from Judge Schooley.

    This past Friday evening about 7pm Sam was on his way to referee a soccer match when he was detained and jailed by county police. He was held in jail from Friday evening September 9 and released on September 11.

    Clauses around the 240-250 mark are overtly totalitarian, and link into all Sandi Adams and many others have talked about. I raise this as, although specific to the UK, the lockstep of recent years suggests this is policy that will miraculously appear fully formed, elsewhere.

    2. Some 277 Conservative MP’s voted ‘AYE’ to that bill. Labour perhaps decided not to interrupt an enemy when he is making a mistake.
      As someone put it :
      “Property owners who don’t comply with new energy rules may face prison. Ministers want to grant powers to create new criminal offences and increase penalties as part of efforts to hit net zero targets.”
