Our Music of the Week is a beautiful ballad—a top ten country hit and Grammy Award nominee—by Jamey Johnson from his 2008 album That Lonesome Song.
Leafing through old black and white photographs, an aged man tells his grandson about some of the important events and memorable moments of his life. What the photos do not convey, of course, are the actual emotions and experiences of soul growth that are still vivid in grandpa’s mind—lessons and memories that can only be captured by a sentient heart. And yet, the photos, even if not in color, provide an anchor of history and meaning that can be pieced together by a later generation.
It makes us think of our current generations, and subsequent ones, living in an all-digital memory space: Will ANY photographs and memoirs be left as documentation of real-life events and family treasures, should a magnetic, solar, or military event wipe out our digital chronicles for good?
