Europe is in the grip of cold arctic weather and the waters are freezing over. Lake Balaton in Hungary has frozen over for the first time in nine years. People are making the best of it, including in Stavoren in Northern Friesland (no pun intended), where Catherine is based in Europe.
As the snow falls on Stavoren, everything is frozen but beautiful and magical. Many townspeople are praying it lasts long enough for them to put on their skates and swirl and dance on the canals.
Somehow this new piece by Ludovico Einaudi—the popular Italian ‘minimalist’ and ambient music composer and pianist—seems appropriate.
