“Herb is the healing of a nation, alcohol is the destruction.” ~ Bob Marley

By Brigitte Mouchet

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of over 400 chemical compounds derived from Cannabis Sativa, interestingly enough, one of the first plants cultivated by humans. As early as 4,000 B.C. in China, cannabis was cultivated for its fibers to manufacture strings, ropes, textiles, and even paper. In India, the medical use of cannabis probably started around 1000 years B.C. In the Western world, the discovery of cannabinoid receptors in the brain, and of the Endocannabinoid System in the 1990’s brought it to the forefront of the scientific research scene.

Today, its surge in popularity comes from the fact that it offers significant medical benefits, without making people feel high. And those benefits are quite extraordinary: from thinking clearly to preventing most diseases. In spite of this, most health care practitioners don’t know much about CBD or hemp oil—hemp being a cannabis variety cultivated for its high CBD content and extremely low THC. Although CBD’s legal and regulatory status is still ambiguous, hemp-derived CBD products can be purchased in the US, which is still not the case with marijuana-derived CBD products.

My interview with Dr. Robban Sica, an expert in Integrative Medicine, provides an overview of the health and wellness benefits of hemp oil as well as recommendations on how to choose a hemp oil product safely and for maximum efficiency. Join me for an enlightening discussion that could possibly change your life!

Our hero for this week is Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, an Israeli organic chemist and professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. Mechoulam is best known for his work (together with Y. Gaoni) in the isolation, structure elucidation and total synthesis of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the main active principle of cannabis and for the isolation and the identification of the endogenous cannabinoids anandamide from the brain and 2-arachidonoyl glycerol (2-AG) from peripheral organs together with his students, postdocs and collaborators.

This week in Let’s Go to the Movies we recommend “The Scientist” a documentary that traces the story of Dr. Raphael Mechoulam from his early days as a child of the Holocaust in Bulgaria, through his immigration to Israel, and his career as the chief investigator into the chemistry and biology of the world’s most misunderstood plant: cannabis.

As this is the last week of the month, there is no Money & Markets commentary. Post your questions for Catherine at Subscriber Input or at the commentary for her Money & Markets on February 7, 2019.

Talk to you Thursday!

Where to find high-quality hemp oil products:

CTFO

Dr. Sica and I both recommend the 10x pure product from CTFO, which I recently tried. I did feel a big difference compared to other hemp oil products from CTFO that I had been using. Everybody is different though and therefore will have a different experience with hemp oil products. You will need to experiment to see how it works for you.

  1. Before the recent Farm Bill passed making hemp once again legal, all Cannabis was on the Drug Enforcement Agency Schedule One list –drugs with “no known medical uses”– resulting in black markets, drug wars, violence and wasted lives. All the while, another US government agency, the Department of Health and Human Services holds US Patent #6,630,507 –cannabinoids for the prevention and treatment of diseases including auto-immune disorders, stroke, trauma, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and dementia. The Patent Office granted GW Pharmaceuticals multiple cannabis patents: #8,790,719, #9,017,737, #9,168,278 and #9,205,063, for treatments of prostate, breast and colon cancers, neural degeneration, psychotic disorders, and as an appetite suppressant. More patents for GW Pharmaceuticals are pending. A descriptive name for this is hypocrisy.

  2. Bridgette –

GREAT interview on CBD! Very informative and helpful. Now I can see why ‘hemp’ has been a Schedule 1 ‘drug’ for so long.

It looks like CTFO is set up as a direct marketing company. I’m good with that as there are either direct marketing costs or paying for retail space.

Question: Is there a name / number that we can sign up under? Seems a waste to NOT form a Solari CBD Circle.

    Thank you again ….

    1. Hi David, Thank you for your feedback! Yes, this topic can be very confusing, so I’m glad you found it informative and helpful. Regarding CTFO, the link I provided is actually my link. But this should not reflect in anyway on Solari. As a marketing professional, I usually stay away from this type of business as well. I signed up with CTFO because it seemed to be the best way to get access to high-quality hemp oil products, and CTFO seems to be a very ethical company with a very fair compensation system. My recommendation is based on my personal experience with CTFO products, and what I’ve learned from Dr. Sica and CTFO, but I personally have not tried any other brands.

    2. No name or number. Generally stay away from taking these kinds of steps. In part, I am still in due diligence mode on CBD oil.

  4. What a fascinating interview. I just listened again and got a chance to go through CFTO’s website. Still in due diligence mode so will order some this week to try.
The link here at the commentary goes through Brigitte’s affiliate link so that is the one to use.

Would love to hear your experience if and when you try.

    1. Hi Catherine,

      I’ll share my experience 🙂

I have been taking CTFO’s hemp oil for 8 months now but switched to 10x Pure about a month ago as I learned that that new product was much more bioavailable. My main problem is sleep. I didn’t experience any improvement with the prior CTFO hemp oil products I was taking, although it felt OK to take them. Since I started with 10x Pure, I’ve been feeling that I am drifting into a peaceful sleep when going to bed, which is very unusual for me, and I stay more or less asleep during the entire night instead of being wide awake after a few hours of sleep. This happened immediately and it is still the case, except for last week as I was travelling and didn’t have 10x Pure with me. I have never experienced anything like this with any other natural sleep aid, so this is a positive sign for me.

  6. This report inspired me to make my own CBD oil. What fun. It was so easy to water extract. I purchased dried Organic hemp flowers legally. 2c H2O in my digital crook pot at 150F. Test temp with thermometer. 150 F will not harm most of the full plant goodness.
1C Organic extra virgin olive oil. 1 c organic cultured butter. 20 grams ground Hemp. Put in Crock-Pot for 6-8 hours, checking for consistent 150 F temp. Cool 1 hour. Stain mixture through muslin cloth .Pour mixture into gravy separator. Elixir into jelly jars. I made 16 oz.
It’s wonderful! I can envision adding all sort of essential oils to this.
Most of all it was fun

    1. I’m looking into other sources for organic hemp. My subjective assessment of the quality of the batch I made is
high. I think it is like taking an anti-inflammatory. I was surprised.
Most CBD I have tried didn’t seem to do anything.
I will look forward to finding better sources for the raw materials.
I was playing Back organ music when I worked with the batch. I said prayers sending love and gratitude to the mixture.
What I am enjoying, is the ability to add a little bit of the oil Elixir to food. I think I will make a batch for seasoning. I’ve started a few small jars with Tumeric , Ginger and one with garlic!
Thank you Catherine. Solari inspires the creative!

      1. Well that is good. The anniversary for da Vinci has been so inspired this year. If the Italians could help drag us out of the medieval, maybe they can help drag us out of this neomedieval thing that is happening.

        1. I have noted subjectively, although making CBD oil is brilliant fun , I am never going to know the dosage of my finished product.
I may continue to make it , then compound it as I would any of prepared
cooking oils diluting it to be safe.
For medicinal purposes I would go with the quality laboratories in the interview.

          1. Hi Gina,

You are amazing and thank you for sharing your experience/experiment! I want to learn more about the manufacturing process myself and will share anything useful I learn. Best, Brigitte
