U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) today took to the floor of the House to oppose the effort to reauthorize expiring provisions of the PATRIOT Act, which ultimately failed extension today as the measure did not receive a two-thirds vote.
7th District Congressman Sean Duffy (R-Ashland) voted to extend the act. Of the roll call on the vote, 210 Republicans voted to extend the act and 26 voted against. No Independents voted, though 67 Democrats voted to extend the act and 122 voted against.
Kucinich, a leading advocate for the repeal of the PATRIOT Act, said the defeat could be an opportunity for creating “a new coalition.”
