Miss Catherine,
I think this is a question of risk management, are we using official reality or reality to perform that risk management? I have met and fostered most all my relationships, regardless anyone’s personal attributes, in low risk controlled environments: work, school, ball field, church, gatherings, military training, shopping, etc.
That is a quite different matter than being immersed in a cohort where almost one out of two individuals in that cohort don’t think it is OK to be your skin color. The later represents real risk. If the number of individuals in your area that think you should not exist is significant, then real risk exists even if sound individual inter racial relationships are in place. It is up to the individual’s risk tolerance as to what level of risk is acceptable and the actions required to achieve that tolerance level. “Avoid” is an appropriate risk management solution, used when there is not a desire or resources to engage and work through the issues.
I believe that this venture into fascism by this cohort represents a significant change from past norms. Fortunately, 53% of that cohort seems to have resisted, at least to some extent, the influence of their smartphones and other abominations of control. With those folks coalitions and relationships need to be formed with the mission to eliminate the ideology that has created the current situation. Until achieved real risk will have to be managed.
V/R,
Kevin

Appreciate the time challenge and how it drives the need for short cuts.

Yes! This explains a LOT of various experiences in my own life. Thanks Ladies!!
I live in Vermont where the Govenor appointed a young women as a judge. A group of people tried to block the appointment due to the fact that her husband was fired, as a cop, because he supposedly targeted blacks. They felt it would prejudice her view, when she decided on cases regarding race, because of his background of targeting blacks. I haven’t heard anything about what was decided regarding her appointment.
It’s typical of some people to want to classify others as though they are first and foremost a member of a group, instead of an individual. Putting the group membership therefore before the individual.
I would say the whole woke movement and some of its degenerate arms are doing the same, putting a persons group status above that person as an individual as though its somehow more important to belong to a group. They know how effective this is on the young.
I agree that whenever someone puts the faults of some group on you and expect you to take ownership and argue on behalf of that group, don’t fall in that trap.
We are individuals first.
Being an immigrant I’ve had years of questions like “why do you South Africans always…” which only reminds me (sadly) how my heritage is still the most important thing some people see.
It’s a very collectivist way of looking at the world, to see people first and foremost as members of groups. I like to remind people of that whenever I’m expected to argue the side of some group I belong to which has very little to do with my personal beliefs.
“African American” vs “Black”. Interesting article on American Thinker regarding this terminology. Trump spoke at the funeral of Lynette “Diamond” Hardaway of Diamond and Silk fame. Like him or not he had the courage to ask the question and stated that he always felt ignorant with regard to how to address the Black community. “I always used to ask — what do you like better — African American?… Black? You know there are many different terms. They said “We like Black” — because I was always saying “African American.”

What chaps my ass is hearing bad behavior described as “human nature.”
Really? I’m human and I would never do that, and oh, by the way the bad behavior that gets classed as typical of all humans – is 90% of the time – done by MEN.
Who described bad behavior as human nature? Don’t remember saying that? I thought I described it as something coming from a smart phone. 🙂
