    1. Not a fan of Amazon… and haven’t done a deep dive on the math specifics, but these were not going to be low wage jobs. The average salary was estimated to be $150,000.

That would have made salaries alone $3.75 Billion dollars a year.

NYC NY has a personal income tax, which, if using the 150k average, would amount to $5664.40 CITY tax per employee. Over $141 Million in City Income taxes per year.

There is more to this story than meets the eye. As CAF suggests, might be a change in plans based on economic signals.

Maybe they got a better offer somewhere else, after doing some pesky arithmetic. Maybe someone “big” in NYC pissed Bezos off when his love life got put up on the clothesline.

Just thinking loosely here… why on earth would a for profit company WANT to relocate to NYC? If they insist on the crappy tax liability of NYC, they could move somewhere cheaper, and hand out $100 dollar bills to be thrown out the car window on the commute. LOL

      1. Economic signals could have been a factor. I am wondering how much had to do with the National Enquirer hit. I assume they were in NY because of the benefits of coordinating directing with NY Fed and member banks on the reengineerings underway. However, their deal with Lockheed could have positioned them to do eveything they need by satellite. If you look at how much they are delivering into NY it is amazing. I was saying in Grammercy Park two years ago and all day long EVERY DAY EVERY hour, huge pallates of Amazon boxes were being uploaded and wheeled down the street into apartment buildings. Their sales per block where off the charts. My guess it that they did not want bad publicity messing up that market Highly lucrative

    2. I’m wondering if Amazon is doing this to rally all of the people who want the project to be built to rise up and quash the dissenters. With all of those estimated 25,000 new jobs now disappearing, I’m sure a lot of people will be angry, and they may now turn on all of the dissenters, driving them out, and clearing the way for the project to be built. In addition, any politician who directly caused 25,000 new jobs to now be lost to the area may now have a very difficult time being re-elected.

      1. The jobs opportunities are great but Amazon does NOT need the $3Billion in tax right offs when they use so many services for free ie the postal service while charging $99 for an Amazon prime account. Douchebag Cuomo is already complaining that tax revenue is at a low in NY state. He needs to stop killing businesses and stop laundering money out of the system.

        I can’t stand Andrew Cuomo.

        1. I read this morning where some NY politicians are saying that because Amazon has now decided to not locate there, this proves that they would have been a bad business partner for NYC. I’m sure we’ll continue to hear political positioning on this from both sides.

  1. Oh Catherine-

Those real estate developers who built around LIC must be freakin’ OUT! If I ever have time to take the train out there and take a video of the insane construction that was going in anticipation to Amazon building their headquarters out there I will. Since Trump is a NYC developer guy, I would not be surprised if they will try to get him involved. The construction is massive. It literally was reshaping a neighborhood known for warehouses into family communities for people to live. There was already gentrification in the neighborhood but Amazon’s presence would have taken it to the next level…

    1. My pastor used to say “God does not bless a mess.” Whoever ran the process should have gotten this sorted out before they wasted so much time and money courting Amazon. Part of Cuomo’s problem is his power comes ultimately by force. I have never met a person who ever liked him. In Washington that I know of, he was universally despised as a Thug. Makes it difficult to lead during a period of this kind of accelerating change.

  3. Catherine…word here on the street in California; is that ex-governor Brown was negotiating with the Chinese to help build the bullet train according to and following EB rules to bring many here to live and work. The unions here protested loudly, as it would take away many jobs; and politically the thing was scrapped. It was a bomb anyway, along with the underground subway in LA. Another group that protested here were the car makers and dealers. They still want to squeeze a few more cars on the freeway system. Safe travel!!!
