  1. Catherine…..we are all eagerly awaiting your commentary on the college admissions scandals taking place. The state of Pennsylvania was mentioned a little in the pres; but no colleges from there seem to have been hung out to dry, yet. Most were California, and of course Yale. While this has been going on for years; do you think that there will be any actual punishments, or that it will all be washed over? Totally disgusting to watch; being as how I put myself through school!

    1. Lauran:

I just reviewed in the Money & Markets commentary that will be posted tonight – there is a deeper story here. I reviewed some of the possibilities including:

Hit on TPG and Wilke Farr – they are a transaction team
Looking for members of the establishment to throw to the lions to satisfy and entertain the crowd before the election
By slaughtering members of the establishment in this way you scare everyone else into being prepared to toe the line – they will not push back against the crazy stuff coming
White out on upcoming decision on Harvard’s court case related to admissions – prosecutions came out of DOJ in BOSTON – note many major Harvard competitors on the list

The message to the establishment is very clear and chilling – “financial coup d’etat is over – you are now expendable. Play ball or you could be next.” A lot of people will not be able to adjust – the corruption is deep and wide.

Given the Presidential campaign coming up, no reason to let these folks skate. In a slowing economy, they are all expendable. Top people would much rather throw them to the wolves than have to explain why they had bankrupted much of the next generation with student loans.

I would not want to be in their shoes. They are in serious trouble – especially if the freshman Congressman decide to make them a cause célèbre.

  2. As a racetrack family, we are very much interested in Santa Anita’s crisis right now.
Be hoping you’ll do a follow up.
    Enjoy Europe Catherine

    1. Sophia Smallstorm brought up the issue of glyphosate in protein synthesis in her report this month possibly effecting horses. Glyphosate replaces glycine in protein synthesis producing very weak muscles, connective tissue, joints, etc.

If I owned a million+ dollar horse I would feed it organically grown products only. Is this the case? Do horse owners feed their animals only organically grown products? Very curious.

    2. Diane – please keep us posted on any developments in what is happening at Santa Anita – this is a very important situation. Heartbreaking.

      1. They have got together and negotiated a deal.
Not such a good deal…but they are suppose to race on the 22nd.
I was very worried this was a land grab deal
Santa Anita property is worth billions.
So is the Golden Gate property.
It shouldn’t surprise you …its really about money.
I hope I’m wrong. Time will tell.

        1. Unfortunately to get that property there are people who would be willing to assassinate scores of horses. Not saying it is true. Just sad the way the world has gone that we can not exclude the possibility.

  4. When a friend told me about the college admissions scandal, I said, “This is the oldest game in the book!” Typically the Alumni Association is the cutout. It’s true way beyond the Ivies. My kids are high-achievers, without the slightest possibility of getting into Harvard or Yale. For a white kid, he’d have to be a 300-pound pulling guard. I also mention that the Bushes, Kennedys and Obamas and typical others who have gone to Yale and Harvard are admitted for reasons other than their academic prowess. How does one imagine the Harvard Endowment gets to be so large? Money talks. Nothing new here.

    1. There is an insider track that is legal – though often very dirty. Still legal. This track was illegal – and very easy to catch, document and prosecute in court.

  6. Ask Catherine Department:
Has anyone associated the rampant respiratory afflictions of this wild winter with the atmospheric spraying readers know as chemtrails and the wilfully blind see as clouds? Many and widespread illnesses, more penetrating and long-lasting than previously noticed have touched just about everyone I know.

    1. Yes, I have been noticing it. It is worse in the northern heartland than usual – but same old same old as far as I can tell in South and on the Coast. It looks to me like California is the worst hit – has been that way for about 5 years.
