It is already worse than Soviet Union. The only thing better is purchasing power but this will crash in few years. Already prices are up 2x from pandemic start.
Our government (Romania) is working on a law that would give the ‘secret service’ absolute powers. Secret service is STASI equivalent here. Huge Black budget without parliament approval, no control from any institution, surveillance rights without any mandate, citizens are forced to tell agents everything they ask, they can have (secret) commercial companies, can spy on any institution… Our governor was very angry that this leaked to the press. Probably they plan to pass it during next crisis.
Now, our government won’t do anything without an order from above. So, I expect this is in work everywhere in EU. We will see STASI officially resurrected within a year.
