  1. About bitcoin mining and cloud computing, I guess bitcoin mining energy consumption is way higher than what cloud services providers use. Or, is it really higher?
I know that the big Am*&@# electronic commerce and cloud computing provider spends on average $1.5 million in electricity a month on average per data center. My understanding is that company has at least 100 just in one US state. That is $150 million a month, $1.8 billion/year. Can’t figure out how much that is in kwh.
Just wondering and sharing a bit of intelligence with the Solarians…
Meanwhile listening to you Catherine with John is always great (in terms of the energy you share and quality of content). You help me keep my state of amusement…

  2. I am interested in alternative currencies. I think it would work best with a 12 pointed unit, instead of a digital, o r 10 point unit. There are more even parts to a 12 point than 10. 1/3 cannot be stated clearly in digits, but can in the other. Beyond that is the 12 inches in the English verses the metric system.. The ratio of the foot (12 inches) to a meter is probably irrational, which means that they cannot ever meet with exactitude. These people talk about a break-way civilization. Let us do it first. So long, suckers!

    1. Retail cashiers can barely make change in base-10, a base-12 currency would mean mandatory electronic devices for simple arithmetic operations. Would be nice if some alternative systems could operate on pen & paper.

    2. Peter, I confess, I do not understand. What is a 12 pointed unit?

  3. Catherine, Miami’s condo collapse may just be a building in bad disrepair, sadly there are likely many.
Concrete has a lifespan and a forty year old building has already lost much of its concrete strength.
Many of these buildings incorporate pools into the structure, from what I can see this structure
starts with a parking garage then pool and condos on top. There’s video someone
captured of water rushing out of the parking garage entrance shortly after a loud boom.
A 20 by 30 foot poll 4.5 ft deep weighs approx 84 tons likely enough to pull a weakened structure down.
I’ve lived in 2 newer buildings in Miami with pools incorporated into the structure, both
pools leaked, if it’s not the pool it’s the pool deck. The first building we were in drained the pool
several times to restore the waterproofing, leaks continued.
Our present residence the pool deck is leaking into the parking garage. The HOA just announced they’ve
contracted for another pool deck re-hab. I imagine many years of leaking pool water would eventually
rust out the reinforcing bars within the columns.

    1. Very interesting. Given the speed, our team thought a sink hole was most likely. But you are right a leaking pool could weaken the structure a lot. Very frightening.

  4. the comments from the Chinese dairy about drop in pregnancies this year is due to the fact that women in China are discouraged from trying to conceive within 6 months of being vaccinated. so a 7-8 month drop in pregnancies can be expected – over half a year’s revenue.

so the comment doesn’t mean that a woman will be infertile but rather that they will choose, with government and doctor support, to delay trying to have a baby until 6 months after getting vaxxed. because adverse reactions can be expected. or there are clear unknowns.

which is something you do not hear in the West.

also interesting to see how china deals with the other vaccine tech such as mrna, as they are trying to raise the birth rate.

    1. Very much appreciate the report. I hope to be able to publish/link to some of the latest on lipid toxicity and what it would could do to fertility rates. Very concerning.

      1. the hospitals will not vaccinate a pregnant or breastfeeding woman. this is with the “traditional” vaccine technology of an inert version of the virus, which is considered relatively safe.

contrast with pregnant women in USA taking the mRNA Pfizer shot.

  5. https://www.rt.com/news/528197-france-mandatory-vaccination-covid-considered/
“The French Senate is considering implementing obligatory vaccinations for those aged 24-59 to help the country weather the anticipated next spike of coronavirus infections in what would be a fourth wave of cases. The body published a report from its Common Mission of Information on Thursday, advocating for mandatory vaccinations of young to middle-aged adults on the grounds it could significantly lower hospitalization rates and deaths. The report issued a stern warning: “act now to limit impact”. The report follows Prime Minister Jean Castex’s announcement on Wednesday that he will consult elected officials and chairmen of parliament on the compulsory vaccination of caregivers, with senators pushing for this to also include 24-59 year olds.”

  6. also this. for some reason, vaccinated individuals are of particular concern:

Consulate General of Spain in Shanghai:

    THE CONSULATE REPORTS

In recent weeks, and without any official communication from the Chinese authorities, foreign citizens residing in China and vaccinated with the Chinese vaccine or foreign vaccines, and / or having overcome COVID 19 in previous months and subsequently vaccinated, are being hospitalized. , in a non-consensual or voluntary manner, for 3 or 4 days upon arrival at the PR China.

At the airport upon arrival they do blood tests and if the antibody test is higher than a figure established by the health authorities, as a result of the vaccination, they make them sign documents in Chinese without translation into English and admitted to a hospital .

At the hospital they do more blood tests and PCR, as well as chest MRI and some additional invasive test, the results of which are neither given nor informed. They limit themselves to asking for cooperation for 3-4 days.

In the hospital, you have to pay only for WeChat for toilet paper, towels, any sanitary products you need, as well as bottled water. They do not accept payment in cash or by credit card.

The Shanghai Municipality Foreign Affairs Office does not reply to the Notes Verbales it receives, nor does it provide a telephone response, as is customary.

Neither the people admitted nor the Consulates General in Shanghai have been informed of this surprising and unethical practice nor of the minimum antibody level set. It is also not known how they select these people.

If you are going to return to the R.P. China in the coming weeks, the Consulate General asks you to take into account all this information, do not sign documents that you do not understand, use a translator on your mobile to understand what you are signing and take a photo before delivering them, as they will not give you a copy.

This Consulate General, the Embassy in Beijing and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Delegation of the European Union in Beijing, are taking steps to stop this practice immediately.

    1. Yes. We discussed at that time. Appreciate your posting as the Cuba doings brought this back front and center.
