Hero of the Week: Feb. 7, 2022: Australian Air Traffic Controller and Student Pilot

Here are two men keeping their calm. When the on-board flight instructor collapses, a clear-minded and competent (anonymous) air traffic controller at Perth’s Jandakot Airport guides student pilot Max Sylvester—during his very first flight lesson—in landing a two-seater Cessna. Mr. Sylvester says that studying the textbook lessons helped him through. The air traffic controller’s confident and upbeat voice is the guiding force during these extraordinary moments.
Mr. Sylvester has no intention of paying for this lesson.

AMAZING! I spent hours flying the “right seat” of various small aircrafts and co-founded a commuter airline…and this air traffic controller was really fantastic.
I love that the student pilot kept his humor and used it to bleed off his nervousness. Brilliant job!
