Pushback of the Week

Rep. Thomas Massie’s Dual Loyalty Disclosure Act

August 24, 2025

“If we continue allowing dual citizens to run for federal office, candidates should disclose to voters ALL countries in which they hold citizenship.”

Rep. Thomas Massie’s Dual Loyalty Disclosure Act

There seems to be no limit to the number of times Congressman Thomas Massie—who was our Hero of the Year in 2024—can earn a Solari nod for Pushback of the Week or as Hero of the Week! Catherine has often discussed the problem of federal legislators with dual passports and their conflicted loyalties, and Congressman Massie has brought that issue out into the open with his introduction (in late March) of the “Dual Loyalty Disclosure Act” (HR 2356).

The bill, with five Republican cosponsors, would amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to require that candidates for federal office disclose their possession of dual citizenship—and the country in which their dual citizenship is held. Suggesting that the ideal would be for dual citizens elected to Congress to renounce non-U.S. citizenships entirely, Rep. Massie states, “At a minimum, they should disclose their citizenship in other countries and abstain from votes specifically benefiting those countries.”

In a Financial Rebellion episode on August 14, Massie discussed some of the other ways that he is continuing to push back in the halls of Congress. Nothing daunted by a high-powered smear campaign currently being waged against him, Massie notes that of the three billionaires financing the attack, “one of them is in Epstein’s black book.”

Speaking of which, Massie has positioned himself front and center in the fight to bring out the Epstein files. With cosponsor Ro Khanna (D-CA), Massie introduced the “Epstein Files Transparency Act” in July and a discharge petition to force an on-the-record vote in the House about releasing the complete files. The two representatives have scheduled a press conference on September 3 (the day after Congress returns to Washington), which will include abuse survivors who have never spoken publicly before, to “highlight the urgent need for transparency and accountability.” He urges everyone to call the DC offices of their two U.S. Senators and Representative after the press conference to tell them to sign the discharge petition.

Massie’s other current legislative efforts include his mid-July introduction of the PREP Repeal Act to end “medical malpractice martial law” and his ongoing labors on behalf of the PRIME Act.

In discussing the billionaire-financed smear campaign against him, Massie modestly alludes to his dozen years of legislative efforts on behalf of transparency by quoting the popular expression, “Dogs do not bark at parked cars.” We are delighted that Massie continues to stay in motion, even in the face of hostile attention.

For those on social media, Massie’s posts on “X” are well worth following.
