“Although the thyroid is tiny in size, it has the power to wreak havoc on you anywhere from head to toe. I have been practicing holistic medicine for over 20 years. I have yet to see any single nutrient help as many patients as iodine. Every cell in your body needs iodine. You cannot make a single hormone without it, yet people do not get enough of it.”
~ Dr. David Brownstein, MD, author of Overcoming Thyroid Disorders and 59 Diseases Linked to Thyroid Imbalance
By Brigitte Mouchet
The thyroid is a key driver of many functions in our bodies. It provides our daytime energy, manages our enzymatic processes, is involved in the production of human growth hormone, contributes to mitochondrial health—which is connected to many chronic diseases—and more. For a variety of reasons, many people today suffer from a low-functioning thyroid, but it is still often undiagnosed.
How can we take care of our thyroid health? Dr. Kae Thompson, a naturopath and the developer of VoiceBio©™, a tool analyzing people’s voice to identify imbalances in the body, tells us about a simple supplement that can restore thyroid health and help us stay healthy.
That supplement is liquid iodine. The thyroid uses iodine to produce thyroid hormones. Dr. Thompson discusses liquid iodine derived from the mineral iodine, which is natural to our bodies—not plant- or ocean-based sources that require involvement of the liver.
In this interview, we invite you to take a deep dive into the role of the thyroid and its back-up organ, the adrenals, to understand the importance of keeping your thyroid healthy.
In Let’s Go to the Movies, Catherine will review the film Soylent Green and comment on the Yes Men spoof on the WTO and McDonalds. This is part of her effort to inspire you to establish trustworthy, fresh foods sources, given accelerating changes in the global food industry.
You can email or post questions for Ask Catherine at this week’s Money & Markets commentary here.
Talk to you Thursday!
Thanks Catherine and Solari team for this interview. I think this information can help countless people trying to navigate the allopathic medical health system. The connection between thyroid and heart health is new to me.
One of the books Dr. Thompson recommends, Solved: The Riddle of Heart Attacks, by Dr. Broda Barnes (1976) appears to be out of print, but here is a link to a scanned copy (hopefully a full, unaltered version) that seems to be taken from the University of California, San Francisco medical library (oddly, the library no longer lists the book in its collections): https://jeffreydachmd.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Broda_Barnes_Solved_Riddle_Heart_Attacks.pdf
Thanks for that link to the book, J Lee!
I’ve now read the book through that link and it has some very important information in it, telling us, among many other things, how an optimally-functioning thyroid can prevent heart disease and plaque from accumulating within the arteries, and the importance of iodine in keeping our thyroid functioning at its optimal level.
Thanks!

Hi Catherine,
In light of the countless issues with Amazon, may I suggest to not include their links above and in the future, when quickly linking to books?
Here is a seemingly netural source for most books; it is a mega catalog of books in libraries around the world: http://www.worldcat.org
Here’s their about page: https://www.worldcat.org/whatis/default.jsp
Thanks.
Thanks. I have standing orders to NOT use Amazon. Oops. Just sent the team another reminder.
Great, I figured it was just an oversight. The Broda Barnes book is still linked to it… just fyi…

Does anyone know of this individual, stated as Naturopath, holds a doctorate from a medical school accredited to license ND’s? The epidemic of individuals claiming to hold medical degrees is pronounced. Some of the language being bantered about here is very suspect.
Wow, in these days of needed courtesy and kindness, you missed the mark. You obviously saw I’m replying to comments; yet you call me an “individual” and have not taken any time to research this information on your own. Do you intelligently think our knowledge of the thyroid is the same as it was 10 years ago? In fact, it has grown by leaps and bounds in the past 2-3 years alone. It is now considered one of the most important organs to repair. I am so honored & excited when I can share how amazing our body is and may sometimes talk so fast it hasn’t hit my brain yet but that shouldn’t warrant this. I have no problem with you disagreeing with me regarding content; and welcome anyone to investigate all information. In fact, I think most people should get off the computer and TV to read more. Anyway – yes, of course I graduated from a Naturopathic College; yes, I had an office and saw clients; yes, I’ve traveled the world teaching my therapy; yes, I’m retired now and yes, all the information is true but not mine, just complied by me through nineteen years of study. Again, you are invited to go out into the world and research it for yourself. Your thyroid is an amazing gland; and iodine is necessary for it to function. The bottom line is that we desperately need to care for it properly in our environment of toxins, bad food, additives and medications. (Did I mention how many lives we have saved with iodine in Africa?) The thyroid is truly the key to many health issues. If your doctor doesn’t know this or is not willing to learn; then find yourself a functional doctor in your area. They ARE the future of medicine. I love knowledge; and I mentioned many books to read to further your own knowledge. To help with your research, here are some of my book suggestions: Solved: The Riddle of Heart Attacks; The Iodine Crisis; Metabolic Cardiology; Stop the Thyroid Madness; Hypothyroid Mom; The Big Fat Surprise; Mitochondria: The Future of Medicine; Mind Over Matter; Mind Over Medicine, the 2007 Hunt Study; Iodine (Sircus); Breast Cancer and Iodine; just to name a few. Have a great day.
Madam: with all due respect my commentary is in no way discourteous. I am a physician, my specialty area of study is endocrinology, more specifically the thyroid. I am engaged full time in the private sector, researching the area of bioenergetics. I’ve covered everything from Sir William Oslo to Mark Starr. Thousands of pages of reading. Naturally I will have questions concerning anyone presuming to speak about this topic. Again, with all due respect to accredited Doctors of Naturopathic Medicine – there is, in fact, an epidemic of individuals claiming to be “naturopaths” who never completed any formal medical education.
Worth a discussion. One of the reasons I asked Brigitte to lead the Wellness Series, I was doing 10-30 hours to vet a topic/guest and then would give up because I did not feel I had the focus and expertise to screen and filter. Happened several times.
Any recommendations you have on the best ways to identify the topics that would be most valuable for subscribers and then to vet the guests and sources, would be welcome.
To my way of thinking the best place for the Solari folks to begin would be an introduction to the history and philosophy of medicine through the lens of a 4 volume work by Harris Coulter, Divided Legacy. Although heavy history and philosophy is often not feasible for busy people with jobs and families. This work was absolutely indispensable in the development of my historical understanding of the epistemological warfare besmirching all genres of science. Medicine, or more aptly, biology is merely another co-opted technical paradigm. We can understand nothing without historical context. No one would understand banking nearly so well without the knowledge of the Babylonian system of finance, leading to the Templars, leading to Venice, leading to the Bank of England, and eventually the reserve system. This same historical understanding needs to be forwarded in biology/biophysics/medicine. Otherwise the average citizen is left vulnerable to pettifogging and popular myth. The process of vetting potential guests is a difficult proposition. The balance between discerning competence from well-intentioned amateurism is difficult for people of disparate backgrounds. I am happy to help in any way possible.
Hi Michael,
Thank you for your additional comments and offer. Always welcome! My understanding of the evolution of medicine is that it is heavily influenced by the philosophical thinking regarding the universe at a particular time. For instance, Newton had a mechanistic view of the universe, therefore medicine adopted a similar view regarding health at that time, and that view is still lingering on today although our understanding of the universe is starting to be influenced more and more by quantum physics. We are seeing some early signs of therapies and health-related technology moving in that direction, but they are still far from being mainstream, especially in the US.
The philosophy of science in any particular time period is usually the collective function of elite ideology. Science is also the hedge upon which power in its raw and naked form ultimately rests. For example, as you correctly point out in the instance of Newton, the atomism of nature provided a basis for the Enlightenment mind to Will the domination of Nature. However, Newton was merely the consequence of a metaphysics which is generally hidden. Newton was an Alchemist and Occultist kook which is much less well known, in particular among scientists. The ideology which he promoted publically in his mechanics and the ideology of the groups of whom he was partial – Royal society, etc. – could not have been more disparate. So, it is very useful to understand first and foremost: there is an Official Science, the epistemological warfare variety and an Unofficial Science. Newtonian and Quantum Mechanics are stark variation of the former. Therefore, the dichotomy associated with Newton v. QED is itself a canard of a very high order. The biological theory, then, to which medicine appeals, and which finds its basis specifically in QED also assumes the flaws of the paradigms upon which it is built.
Thanks, Michael, I appreciate it. Will order Coulter. Approaching 400….
Submitted the first dozen recommendations to communicate@solari.com.
Catherine, if the Solari team is interested, I would be willing to compile a list of topics, health oriented or otherwise, and potential professionals to interview. If this is something the Solari team is interested in, please let me know to whom to send the list.
I’m interested – send to me. Appreciate it.
Done.
Hi Michael, Thanks for your question and comment! Kae Thompson is a Naturopath as stated in the interview. I will provide her full credentials as soon as I get them. I also noticed some language inaccuracies, but it is so common, especially in this country, that I chose not to redo the interview just for that, although those were corrected in the transcript.
Noted, thank you Brigitte.

In all the years that I’ve followed you, Catherine, this is one of the best, and most important interviews that I’ve ever listened to on The Solari Report. You’ve had many great interviews over the years, but this one represents a subject that can dramatically impact people’s health, and this can be accomplished relatively easily, too. Congratulations to Brigitte Mouchet for the selection of such an ideal guest to interview on the subject, and for so brilliantly structuring the questions and their sequencing to deliver to us an absolutely fantastic and very thorough interview!
Tres bien et merci! 🙂
Thank you, Jim, for your feedback! I’m glad you found this information useful. Yes, Dr. Thompson knows a lot of wonderful remedies. I took Neprinol, which contains Serrapeptase, myself for years and then stopped. I recently started again taking a similar product from Dr. Mercola. It’s important to take those systemic enzymes on an empty stomach. Best wishes on your journey!
