The Department of Defense is gearing up to help American military families evacuate from the island where the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant is situated, according to Reuters. The news agency reports the DoD announced a voluntary evacuation from Honshu island which affects roughly 20,000 U.S. military dependents. There are more than a dozen bases on
The voluntary evacuation would occur first by commercial or chartered aircraft, like those the U.S. State Department is using for its much smaller potential group of evacuees.
