Feds Launch Criminal Investigation of Goldman Sachs

Federal prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation of Goldman Sachs to determine if the Wall St. giant committed securities fraud, sources said Thursday.
The criminal probe comes just days after the Securities and Exchange Commission filed a civil suit charging the investment house and one of its executives duped people into investing in subprime mortgages designed to fail.
The criminal investigation, now in its preliminary stage, was triggered by a referral from the SEC, a law enforcement source told the Daily News.
