HOW IS THE WAR GOING IN IRAQ?

MARCH 13, 2008. Media reports about the surge in Iraq indicate it’s been working, and now the war is dropping off the radar screens of voters, according to new polls.

However, for the last five weeks, staggering numbers have been available from the US Dept. of Veterans Affairs. A Feb. 4 press release reveals the war in Iraq and Afghanistan has been far more devastating than the public has been led to believe.

VA will treat about 333,000 OIF/OEF veterans in 2009, a 14 percent increase over the estimated 2008 figure. Medical care funding for these patients will climb to nearly $1.3 billion in 2009, or 21 percent more than in 2008.

OIF is Operation Iraqi Freedom, and OEF is Operation Enduring Freedom (mainly referring to the war in Afghanistan).

In a time where huge numbers are thrown around casually like dice, the figure 330,000 may not immediately register. But upon a little reflection, this number of wounded, maimed, and chronically ill soldiers, coming back home from a country where the weapons being searched for were never found, the connections to something called Al Qaida were never found, and the perpetrators of 9/11 were never found—is this a thing to be taken lightly?

Where is the press with this story? Where are the presidential candidates with this chapter in our history? Where is the Congress? To have authorized the war with a vote in the senate or the House led to THIS.

Reporters talk about being taken in by the post-9/11 hysteria. Politicians talk about being misled by the White House. Do you think these people are eager to face the actual consequences of their own cowardice and conformity?

Perhaps that gives us the answer to the question, why are the true numbers of maimed US soldiers being ignored, even as the Dept. of Veterans Affairs releases them publicly.
