Both alchemy and transhumanism aim for the transformation of mankind. There, perhaps, all resemblance ends (though, as my co-author Scott D. de Hart and I point out in the forthcoming Transhumanism book, there is more of alchemy in it than one might at first suspect). The resemblance ends because in its most basic sense, esoteric alchemy (the alchemy that aims at the inward transformation of mankind), is precisely esoteric, it is largely a spiritual discipline, perhaps one might even say an ascetic discipline (though in many ways that stretches the term), whereas transhumanism is concerned with the transformation of man by literally tinkering with humanity as if it were Legos and Tinker Toys.
