The Value of Leadership
One of the many blessings of living in Hickory Valley, Tennessee is that I know, respect and like my Mayor and the members of my Town Council.
The Council meets monthly and reviews and pay the bills as we have no staff other than our part-time Sheriff. Our fire department is all-volunteer and quite excellent. The Hickory Valley Women’s Club pitches in a lot.
You might find our little town quite modest. However, my combined county and town property taxes for my home and two other properties total approximately $500 a year. Our town runs a surplus.
My cousin Jane says that Hickory Valley’s motto is “So far behind, we’re ahead.”
My Congressman, Marsha Blackburn, voted against the bailout twice and grilled Al Gore for his personal conflicts of interests in cap and trade well before one of his interests was awarded a $500 million+ contract by the US government.
Gore’s the guy who lives a very extravagant lifestyle on the theory that he can tax those of us who don’t. We would prefer he just revert to the lifestyle many of his neighbors have been living for generations.
Thanks, Marsha. It is a blessing to live in a place with good leadership.
