Hero of the Week: Week of March 22, 2021: John Magufuli, President of Tanzania

John Magufuli died of a heart attack on March 17, 2021. Loved by his people, he was determined to end corruption and empower the people of Tanzania even in the time of Covid. In July 2020 the World Bank declared Tanzania a middle-income country 5 years ahead of schedule. The country is now one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. May Magufuli’s example continue to inspire Tanzania and the rest of the world. Read our celebration of the life of this brave President and brilliant man here.
To help carry on his legacy, we at Solari have adopted a new word, which we hope will make it into the dictionnary: “to magufuli”, meaning to serve one’s country with a true patriotic spirit, to use the country’s resources efficiently and respectfully, and to establish disciplined leadership. When you do that, you “magufuli” your country.

Love this idea – I hope it spreads – : “to magufuli”, meaning to serve one’s country with a true patriotic spirit, to use the country’s resources efficiently and respectfully, and to establish disciplined leadership. When you do that, you “magufuli” your country.

I’m glad you accented this individual who spoke beyond his nation in truth.
