Let’s Go to the Movies: Week of March 27, 2023: Girl with a Pearl Earring
With our movie this week, we want to take you along to the grand exhibition on Johannes Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, which our Culture Scout, Nina Heyn, and friends of the Solari team have just gone to see on Friday.
This unique exhibition is showing some of the most important artworks of Vermeer, among them the celebrated Girl with a Pearl Earring depicting a mysterious girl with a timeless look, often regarded as the “Mona Lisa of the North.”
Our movie selection, a 2003 production starring Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson, is based on a novel by Tracy Chevalier and tells the fictional story of the circumstances and characters involved in the genesis of this masterpiece of the fine arts.
The film is visually and musically captivating and represents some of the best British costume drama: a small substitute for the real experience of seeing Vermeer in Amsterdam.
The Girl with a Pearl Earring can be viewed on Hulu, HBO, or AppleTV
