Letter to the Editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer

Ladies And Gentlemen:
Thank you for your excellent article “Hungry Times For Area Food Banks” by Alfred Lubrano, Mari A. Schaefer and Joseph Dolan.
The authors state that the reasons for the current crisis are complex. As former Assistant Secretary of Housing and former board member of the New York City food bank, I would add that in fact the reasons for the current situation are simple. For two decades, the U.S. government and central bank have promoted policies that are draining wealth from households and communities. Indeed, one of the finest investigative pieces to be done on this phenomenon was the Philadelphia Inquirer’s widely acclaimed series, “America: What Went Wrong,” by Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steele.
Thank you for your efforts to help us understand the struggles of ordinary people and the importance of supporting our local food banks.
Sincerely,
Catherine Austin Fitts
President, Solari, Inc.
