Got a Dolly Parton story I wish to share.
I have been living in West TN for 30 years and almost everytime a local person learns that I lived in Los Angeles for 25 years their response has been “why would you move from L.A. to rural Tennessee?” My usual reply is “I grew up on a farm in New Jersey and wanted to have land around me.
But I never shared why I moved to Tennessee when I could have moved to Missouri, Kentucky, Texas etc.
The reason I moved to Tennessee is because of Dolly Parton. Her husband, Carl, was actively looking to purchase land near the 840 (under construction) west of Nashville. Any place where the proposed 840 was being built should be a good investment.
Well, to make this story short, I spent almost 2 weeks living in her and Carl’s first home on Glencliff Road, Nashville to look at available properties in greater Nashville. Dolly’s and Carl’s first home was a church that was converted to a home residence. It was Dolly’s special place to go and spend time for inspiration when in Nashville.
I did find an interesting property near Springfield, but the house need to much attention. Really like the Bell Buckle and Shelbyville area.
After almost 2 weeks of looking I cast my eyes to the West and happen to find a non listed property in West TN, not far from Nutbush, Tina’s birthplace.
If you are wondering if I slept in Dolly’s bed, the answer is “yes” Lol

The house on Glencliff was a very charming house with many Dolly touches like having windows stenciled with flower designs outside and inside. Inside was filled with items that her fans sent her including many portraits of her, some that hung on the walls of the stairs. Upstairs was the master bedroom and bath. But the most important items were the writing pads, upstairs and downstair, reachable within a few steps. Always thinking of new ideas, always looking for a “hook” for a song. Having writing pads around the house was a common practice as Dolly also had them at her L.A. home on N. Larrabee. Carl use to visit L.A. during Christmas time and his favorite place to hang out during daytime was the Farmers Market on Fairfax.
