“No one can decide to become a sound healer. You can only take the archetype as a sound healer when you feel the call to serve the other side.”

The Story of Githa Ben-David and Her Work with Sound
If you enjoyed Ulrike Granögger’s fascinating interview with Danish sound healer Githa Ben-David this past week, and you want to learn more about Ben-David’s journey with sound, the 30-minute documentary The Note from Heaven, released in 2017, is a charming next step. Danish author and “practical mystic” Lars Muhl (Ben-David’s former husband) directed the film.
Through interviews with Ben-David and others, the film traces her musical trajectory—from a childhood love affair with her grandmother’s piano to classical saxophone studies at Copenhagen’s Danish Academy of Music (the film also treats viewers to Ben-David enthusiastically playing the iconic sax riff in Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street”) to the revelatory studies with Mangala Tiwari in India that “changed her life completely.”
Commenting on that pivotal juncture, Ben-David says,
“What I’d been longing for all my life—also with the music, what made me play—is this ‘lift’ … where you disappear…. This I got non-stop [with this type of singing]—I could just sit, and I was just in it. After this trip to India … I lost interest in the saxophone…. I just felt like singing my ground note [the Note from Heaven].”
The Note from Heaven also features testimonials from individuals who experienced remarkable healing after receiving sound therapy from Ben-David for conditions ranging from injuries to eye problems to hearing loss and tinnitus. With her track record of helping 70% of individuals with hearing issues, a university professor suggested that Ben-David document her cases with before-and-after measurements, but she discovered that this scientific approach “drastically” affected the results. She concluded, “Measurements belong to the world of duality. My job as a sound healer is to unite with the oneness level.”
The impulse that made Ben-David want to connect with the divine was apparently obvious even in her Academy of Music days. Her former teacher Peter Bastian comments on her audition:
“She wasn’t much of a saxophonist, but that did not stop her. She just expressed her whole soul with all she had…. Holy mackerel, this girl was present!”
