With Catherine traveling to Milan and Paris, we are offering Giuseppe Verdi’s musical contemplation of Mary Queen of Angels as this week’s Christmas music (presented here by Montserrat Caballé and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra).
The prayer sung by Leonora in Verdi’s opera La Forza del Destino may not be a traditional Christmas chorale, and yet it conveys the sacred vibrations of She who was to become the Mother of Christ.
As such, according to Saint John of Damascus, she is also the Virgin Mother of the Angels, Imma ha Malachim (in Hebrew), and their Queen.
