Music of the Week: Feb. 4, 2022: Lasya –Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is the daughter of world-famous sitar player and classical composer Ravi Shankar, and herself a virtuoso sitarist bridging Indian classical music and western styles. She is the half-sister of American singer and pianist Norah Jones.
Anoushka was trained by her father in the complex understanding and performance of the ragas, the melodic and communicative frameworks of Indian musical modes. There are 72 Mēḷakarta ragas, divided into 12 groups called chakrās. Each raga is seen as a manifestation of a divinity.
Lasya is the dance performed by the Hindu Goddess Parvati.

Great Tune! She is by far my favorite sitar player! I loved her performance at “the concert for George” George Harrison tribute concert.
