Horses in Heaven
Randy Travis
For the first time in six decades, the Chinese New Year—which begins on February 17, 2026—celebrates the sign of the Fire Horse. The horse as a symbol of vitality and energy, independent and unafraid, combined with the element of fire promises to usher in a year of dramatic changes for us all. You only need to read the new blog by Solari’s Culture Scout Nina Heyn on the iconography and motif of the horse in art to become fascinated by the horse’s magnificence and strength throughout cultural history.
The horse also, of course, appears prominently in literature—and powerfully so in the scriptural texts. Revelation 6:4 specifically speaks of a fiery-red horse coming forth among the apocalyptic riders.
Horses stand for innovation and the overcoming of old conventions. Horses remind us of the power that lies in positive and fearless change.
Randy Travis, who sings this week’s song, is certainly someone with the courage to reinvent himself. After an almost fatal stroke in 2013, which affected his brain, and several pneumonia infections during intensive care treatment, it was uncertain that he would ever come back. Although his speech and singing have not fully returned—the song uses modern sound engineering to reproduce his voice—Travis relearned how to play the guitar within a year of his illness.
There are horses in heaven—and thankfully also on Earth.
