Prelude for Organ No. 23 in B Major
Maverick W. Maready
As mentioned last week, the Solari team had fun in Florida meeting with our “Young Builders” group of students and members of our faculty. It was a fantastic encounter of successful business mentors, lawmakers, and researchers convening with the next generation of entrepreneurs of freedom, culture, and family wealth. The talent in this group is remarkable.
Among them is a handsome and gifted organist and composer, who recently published his first set of musical preludes of impressive quality. Maverick W. Maready is the son of author Forrest Maready, whose numerous books Catherine has reviewed on the Solari website. Maverick is a self-taught musician and composer, a young man of depth and dedication, equipped with the gift of thoughtful observation and listening.
He completed his series of 24 Preludes for Organ at age 22. Each piece is a stand-alone work, but they also communicate with each other across Maverick’s compositional horizon. It is exceptional how he has forged such beautifully classical and “Bachian” themes for organ, and yet they evolve in modern, cinematic, sometimes minimalist, and creative ways.
Such is the result of both a gifted soul but also of hard work. In Maverick’s own words taken from his upcoming book:
“Something that weighed heavily throughout the composition process was the standard of craftsmanship set by the greatest composers in history. Upon first listen, their music rewards even the casual listener with a work of unmistakable beauty; however, when truly studied, another level of complexity and craftsmanship is revealed that strikes awe into any rational student. Being aware of this, I wanted my music to contain a similar quality—not only upon first listen, but with a depth that endures continued study.”
This goal has certainly been met. And a rare talent has revealed itself.
