Music of the Week: May 27, 2023: Tina Turner – Wildest Dreams Concert

“This is what I want in heaven…words to become notes and conversations to be symphonies” ~Tina Turner
A legend has gone from us.
We are using Tina Turner’s 1996 live concert in Amsterdam from her “Wildest Dreams” tour for our Music of the Week. Turner was already a huge hit by then, and this album and tour cemented her reputation as a global superstar.
Catherine saw Tina in concert twice. The first time was with Ike at the Princess Theater in Hong Kong in December 1970—part of the tour following the release of the ‘Come Together” album —and then in Philadelphia in 2000 for tour that followed the release of the Twenty Four Seven album (featuring the hit song, “When the Heartache is Over”). That was the tour after “Wildest Dreams.” Catherine has Wildest Dreams and regularly plays when in Tennessee.
More on Tina next week in our Hero of the Week column!
We send prayers for her wonderful husband Erwin Bach, her family and many friends. We will miss a great voice and performance artist. The great woman and leader lives on in our hearts and in the millions of lives she has inspired and blessed.
Rest in peace, Tina.

One of the best live performers, ever. Saw her at Universal Amphitheater — wish I could remember the exact year, but sometime in the second half of the 80s as her “Private Dancer” album (“What’s Love Got to do with It”, “Let’s Stay Together”, et al) had her enjoying a mid-career resurgence. Made about a dozen costume changes — on stage! — dancing and stomping in high heels with sweat dripping off her face. No lipsyncing, no electronic enhancements, just one soulful woman giving everything she had to her fans for nearly two hours. Incredible.
