“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams.” ~ Arthur O’Shaughnessy
By Catherine Austin Fitts
Music critic and historian Peter Guralnick joins me on the Solari Report to discuss the blues, soul, rock and roll and music which expresses our deepest dreams of freedom and helps create the world in which we want to live.
Peter’s two-part biography of Elvis Presley is a literary masterpiece. If you love music, or biography, if you are an Elvis fan, or you want to understand American history, then Last Train to Memphis and Careless Love are not to be missed. Peter teaches creative writing at Vanderbilt and is writing a new biography about Sam Phillips, the extraordinary entrepreneur who created Sun Records and discovered Elvis Presley among many other great musicians and performance artists.
We will talk about music as art, music as politics, music as business, music as economic engine, and music and the creative process as a source of pure joy.
In Let’s Go to the Movies, I will review an A&E documentary based on a script written by Peter, Sam Phillips The Man who Invented Rock & Roll. I will also discuss The Blues a film directed by Martin Scorsese, with portions also written by Peter.
