Surprisingly Powerful Close-Up Portraits of Seeds

		By Caroline Stanley
You wouldn’t think that images of seeds would be very compelling, but thanks to Sarajevo-born, Washington DC-based photographer Svjetlana Tepavcevic’s incredibly detailed, perspective-altering shots, it’s as if we’re seeing them for the first time. According to Fast Company, she came up with the idea for her series Means of Reproduction while on a walk. “When I happened upon the amazing cocoon-like remnant of a seed pod, it stunned me,” she explains. “Once I learned it was an inner lining of a vine seed pod, I began to pay attention to other seed pods. The overwhelming purpose of life is to reproduce itself (given the right conditions, of course). I realized these small seeds and seed pods play such a vitally important role. They are a repository of information, of life’s memory and evolutionary memory.” You don’t have to be a science geek to appreciate the beauty of her work — but fair warning, these striking photos will inspire you to look at your surroundings in an entirely different light.
