Taking Control of Your Investments
A Primer for U.S. Investors Who Do Not Want to Finance the Digital Control Grid
By Tim Caban
On August 7, 2025, President Trump signed Executive Order 14330: “Democratizing Access to Alternative Assets for 401(k) Investors.” This executive order lays the regulatory framework to allow private equity investments to become part of retirement portfolios across the country for 401(k) investors and their equivalents. This is the regulatory realization of Catherine’s concern that private equity will be able to “dip its straw into your 401(k).”
This article is meant to provide Solari subscribers with a nuts-and-bolts guide to inform you on what you are able to do about this and how you can go about removing stocks that build the control grid from your personal portfolio, including your 401(k) or equivalent plan at work.

Thank you so much for the PDF.
Thank you so much for providing this!
I remember when this EO was signed, a bunch of engineers and I in my work unit talked about the asset classes. We all have an employer qualified retirement account and each of us has different private (post tax) investments: bitcoin, various stocks, rental houses, ag realestate. No one had art, metals, or minerals. We basically came to the conclusion that if we passed the management to someone else the return would drop and we would not actually own anything. Earlier this year I read a “IRA opportunity” to buy into a percentage of realestate, for a 37k investment, 10 year commitment, the return 4% income and 4% increase in the land but not guaranteed. The Manager LLC would actually own the asset. The land in the same area we own ourselves in same area: 900/acre in 2005 is 2750/acre in 2026. Not telling anyone what to do, just illustrating an example of what I have seen. Read everything, ask questions, be patient wealth generation takes decades.
Yes. Doing the hard work and being patient reaps great rewards, including in an inflation. Have to say focused on what is real.
Any advice for Canadian Investors?
Thanks
Will see if we can find a Canadian attorney or financial planner to help on doing so. Recommendations welcome!

I was quite frustrated and ready to give up on my 401k financial advisor. The last straw was when I received an Annual Report e-mail from ‘ISHARES Funds’ held within National Financial Services LLC. I guess I had looked up the latter but never the former. (!)
Thank you Tim Caban for this Primer. It allowed me to request a Mid-Sized Company Fund as an alternative strategy. (I didn’t know a ‘Midcap Equity Strategy’ existed.) Gone are all the worst offenders that appeared in several of my somewhat long ‘avoid lists’ (that my advisor kept seeming to ignore).
I think we’re on speaking terms again. Looking up the Top 10 Holdings now to familiarize myself… Once before I mistakenly signed up for ESG funds. I appreciate your discussing those as well.
