Tornadoes and Storms Rip Through South, At Least 284 Dead
(Reuters) 28 Apr 2011 – Tornadoes and violent storms ripped through seven southern states, killing at least 284 people in the country’s deadliest series of twisters in nearly four decades.
The clusters of powerful tornadoes — more than 160 reported in total — combined with storms to cut a swath of destruction heading west to east over several days. In some areas, whole neighborhoods were flattened, cars flipped over and trees and power lines felled, leaving tangled wreckage.

Note from Catherine: National emergencies give the President administrative powers to access funds in the FHA Fund and other financial and funding mechanisms in the federal government. I wonder if the banks and Fed are putting back mortgages to the government under the guise of an emergency. A covert QE3, anyone?
