Catherine,
I know its bad but I shop at whole foods occasionally, purely for specialty items/convince.
Wanted to share some Technocratic/Green shifts I am seeing at the store.
1)There’s waiting line outside, with security and only a certain amount of people are allowed in at a time.
2)There is now a line to meat counter, greatly slowing the process down.
3)Eggs/Butter are all gone, all the time. While fruits/veggies are stacked.
I am not sure if number 3 is a supply chain issue, or if people are instinctively hoarding high nutrient/caloric ally dense foods. The only vibe I got was intentional manipulation.
I am hearing stories of big diary farmers who supply restaurants are being forced to shut down, dumb milk, or kill off cows. Some analyst are saying the pure volume of milk being dumped could later be blamed for contaminating the water supply, providing justification for how “unsustainble” the industry is. Looks like this could lead to pretty significant inflation in “non sustainable” foods.
Most milk goes to cheese making. I’m surprised an organic milk producer would dump milk.
After Katrina in Baton Rouge there were no eggs for 3 weeks. Only thing I can imagine is producers being put out of business or supplies down.
If possible get at least 4 hens and a small chicken tractor. We made our own years ago. You must have chicken wire completely surrounding the hens at night. We learned the hard way that predators will dig under the cage. We had raccoons, foxes, and even a huge hawk (with the biggest claws ever) preying on our poor hens at night and we were in the city, then. During the day it is pretty safe for the hens to roam and forage for insects which makes the yellowest yolks(great vit. A source).
I went after that darn hawk with a broom until I got about 5 feet away and it was standing in the electric fenced area. I really had to steel myself to go after it. But, I did.
