Song for Flood Victims

Sam Burchfield

Some of the elements of the terrible flash floods in Texas resemble patterns seen before in recent tragedies of North Carolina, Valencia (Spain), and Guizhou Province (China), which was struck by two floods in a row. Rainmaking companies deny any involvement.

Please join us in prayers for the many victims of the Texas floods—the children that lost their happy lives, the families that were torn apart, those that are injured, those that are bereft.

We found this beautiful and heartfelt song by Sam Burchfield. Though written for the North Carolina flood victims, it also resonates—with words of sensitivity and sobriety—in the aftermath of the Guadalupe River tragedy.

From the lyrics:

here comes the flood
like a freight train of mud
diving reckless through the hills
the river runs wild
and i’m a helpless child
mother nature gives me the chills

high water and it’s gonna get taller
don’t ya go get washed away
i can’t stop the rain
and I can’t take away the pain
but i’ll lend a helping hand
and get ya to dry land
