On this blog, we love to present music suggestions from subscribers (keep them coming) and, in particular, music written, produced, or performed by subscribers.
Husband and wife Fritz and Helen Renold are gifted subscribers who we met in person at our recent “Meet & Greet” with Catherine in Bregenz, Austria. Fritz is a Swiss jazz musician, composer, and educator from canton Aargau. He was the first Swiss jazz musician under contract with Columbia Records. Fritz and Helen are both alumni of the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
Mr. Renold has been teaching jazz students for many decades and is the author of textbooks on jazz education. In 1992, he founded the Swiss Youth Jazz Orchestra and the annual Jazzaar Festival, which brings top-notch jazz musicians to Europe and in contact with young jazz students.
For our Music of the Week, we have selected “Alkapuri,” written and conducted by Fritz Renold, and performed in 2014 by the Swiss Youth Jazz Orchestra live from the Jazzaar Festival in Aarau.
