Money & Markets

Slogging through Patsy Capitalism

In this episode of Money & Markets, Catherine and John Titus discuss the prevailing economic uncertainty and its impacts on business planning. Against a backdrop of erratic government policies, businesses are struggling to navigate the fluid economic landscape marked by fluctuating tariffs and unreliable information.

Beyond the economic ramifications of these uncertainties, the conversation highlights broader issues of trust in governance. Stories on the role of AI in government operations, Palantir’s operational practices, and the financial and ethical controversies surrounding OpenAI underscore the complexities of the current system.

Catherine and John also touch on U.S.-China financial dynamics, evolving geopolitics in Russia and Ukraine, and the misuse of data by federal agencies. Additional topics of discussion include the climate change narrative, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Pope Leo the 14th’s unexpected rise (and financial implications for the Vatican), and private equity’s involvement in the health care sector.

Overall, the discussion paints a picture of a precarious economic environment influenced by political, technological, and financial factors.

  1. Re investing worldwide, there is always the country risk, by which I mean that the US will sanction/delist/tariff your investment. Been down that road unfortunately. Frankly I feel more comfortable just supporting Solari …and my local farmers.

  2. Appreciate the analysis! I’m wondering what sectors would benefit from a weaker dollar. For commodities which historically the US was able to sell a weaker dollar would help with these markets. But could make it harder to buy hard assets from foreign dollar competition. Where might the opportunities might be for Main Street business building? Is this a place to be putting investment into vice Wall Street money market/401k/etc investing. PS agree with you about self investment into your own business!

  3. Yes, re private equity owning hospitals. A friend had heart trouble, was taken to a good hospital. Within a few weeks he had stomach trouble and became seriously dehydrated. The ambulance wouldn’t take him to the same hospital but to another, which had been destroyed by the owners, was dramatically understaffed, where he was misdiagnosed with pneumonia, given antibiotics, not rehydrated! He got away. This is near Boston.

  4. Using my sphere of influence to move pro-Trunp folks from false hopes based on their belief that he is pro-America has been difficult. I have tried to present facts, and have to say that the outcome is much like it used to be when trying to present facts to pro-Obama folks. I feel I’m up against as much brain washing as we were back in 2007-2009 only this time it is found in the so-called Independent or Conservative factions. I had one person say “but I listen to News Max” which they considered to be the ultimate truth. Much like folks who’d listened to Rachael Maddow used to feel. Catherine and John, how do you see this manipulation of peoples’ opinions based on their sources of information being implemented and by whom? And have you found a way to break through to the average person that we can all apply? I realize that the legislators you’ve met with are to varying degrees open to critical thinking based on pure data, but the average person in America is no longer like that (and this varies by generation).

    1. I brought my wife to Susan Luschas’s meet and Greet with Catherine last May 2024
hoping she would change her thinking about what is and what is not. We were both passing out name tags at the event.

Thank you Susan and your whole family for all the hospitality.

Anyway, I thought perhaps hearing Catherine speak, and meeting her would change things.

My wife’s top three go to sources of information are ABC news, The Guardian, and Facebook.

I’ve known my wife for 50 years. She is very smart.
She is able to see though things better than I.

And having said that, she has not changed at all.

I’ve tried everything, and nothing works.

Catherine has said the same. You can’t change them.

They, my wife included, are in a place, that can’t be reached.

The technology that is able to do this is pure evil…!

I’ve followed Catherine for about 15 years.

      1. Thank you for posting, Steve. I very much appreciate the challenge you and we all face. The technology can do this is indeed pure evil.

  5. The reference to Dr. Judy Wood made me listen to Dr. Wood’s presentation about the reality of 9/11. At that time, I lived in Brooklyn Heights, right across the East river from Lower Manhattan, and I worked in a courthouse a block north of Foley Square. Looking at Dr. Wood’s photos, so familiar from the news reports of the time, and listening to her very persuasive explanation, I was struck by, among other things, how clever, well-planned and well-orchestrated the Kabuki theater of it all was – much useless but impressive theater of army convoy trucks (doing what?), checkpoints (keeping who out?), a general air of busy-ness in an Important Project. The German boyfriend of a friend of mine who lived in Tribeca (just north of Lower Manhattan) said he had seen nothing like it since the American occupation of Berlin at the end of WWII. I was also struck by how quickly and efficiently the dustification was cleaned up – they were careful not to let us see Lower Manhattan until it was. In the spots they missed (recessed doorways, etc), the thick accumulation of dust would surely have given toe game away. As Mr. Titus said about the 6-ft-apart decals used in the scamdemic, it all must have been planned well in advance – even the MTA (subway) hit the ground running.
As a New Yorker, I hope we can be forgiven for our naivete – at the heart of all of this there was a horrible reality – a lot of people were killed horribly and the grief of the survivors was added, cynically, to the Kabuki theater. The first morning of our return to work, the Port Authority, which had a case ready to go to trial, had to withdraw the case because their Chief of Security had been killed in the fall of the towers. There was a dead silence in the courtroom.
I became involved with Solari at the time of the scamdemic and I remain grateful for the Truth I have found here.

    1. Anne:
Appreciate your comments. We all got jolted into a new reality by 911, the financial crisis and then the reset. Hard times….
      Catherine
