Money & Markets

AI-pocalypse Now

In this episode of Money & Markets, Catherine and John explore the precarious status of AI and its impact on the financial markets, drawing parallels to the chaotic scene in ‘Apocalypse Now.’ They discuss hints of economic crises, the dismissal of legal and ethical concerns surrounding AI, and the looming disaster as companies rush towards full-scale AI integration. The conversation also highlights the alarming trend of AI-powered drones, initially used in Gaza, now surveilling American cities, raising significant privacy concerns as they get interwoven with law enforcement operations nationwide.

The discussion shifts to scrutinize the growing financial instability marked by rising P/E ratios and the proliferation of private credit, citing fears of another crisis akin to 2008. They cite numerous cases of government and corporate cronyism, excessive spending on AI, and the expansion of private lending as factors exacerbating financial risks. They also touch upon the adverse effects on Main Street, including soaring auto loan defaults, job losses, and the pressures faced by truck drivers amid regulatory changes and decreased freight volumes.

Furthermore, Catherine and John examine global geopolitical manoeuvres, highlighting the significant military buildup near Venezuela and dubious financial activities in Argentina, as well as LGBTQ oppression in Dubai. They address rising skeptism against surveillance technology in American cities alongside the importance of local activism. The episode concludes with a look at the expansive influence of tech giants like Nvidia and a rallying call for community action against the encroaching digital control grid.

  1. Just as a heads up, Argentina has some significant energy resources that have gone into production in recent years.

    Vaca Muerta Shale Oil

    https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Argentina-Finally-Emerges-as-a-South-American-Oil-Powerhouse.html

    and Fenix Offshore Gas field

    https://totalenergies.com/news/press-releases/argentina-production-start-fenix-offshore-gas-field

To quote another article from oilprice.com regarding offshore oil exploration

“Argentina’s government has been proactive in fostering offshore exploration, awarding 18 areas to nine company groups during the 2018-19 licensing round. This effort, intended to attract $724 million in investment, underscores the nation’s belief in the offshore sector’s potential, likening its geological formations to those in West Africa, where substantial discoveries have been made.

Argentina’s offshore hydrocarbon potential remains vast. According to a YPF presentation, the country’s offshore resources are estimated at 31 billion barrels of oil equivalent, compared to the 29 billion barrels in the onshore Vaca Muerta formation.”

Carrots to Argentina and sticks to Venezuela…

  2. Dear Catherine and John , I’d like to add a thought to the
    possibility posited by Catherine
    of self driving trucks .
When you spoke of your observation Catherine,of highway construction looking like it was preparing the roads for self driving trucks, I immediately saw the graphic web cam image of the “ non English speaking immigrant “doing a 180 degree turn in the highway and cars smashing into the body of the large supply truck .that FLOODED the media and therefore imprinted in my psyche .
Problem -non English speaking migrant worker truck driver kills innocent people
Reaction – horror as we are shown the image repeatedly ( and remember the brain doesn’t know the difference between what’s visceral and imagery)
Solution – “ safe and effective “ self driving trucks .
It was an example for me of how propaganda works on the psyche .

    1. These roadside construction sites may be using/mis-using lasers. As I drove past one I experienced pain in my right eye and was diagnosed with an eye condition a few days later. Making matters worse, the LED lights on cars and trucks nowadays haven’t been studied for their untoward effects on the aging human eye.

  3. The report’s intro – classical piano music and the AIpocalypse Now graphic – is an impressive juxtaposition!

    1. Never die for a false flag. Thou shall not kill yourself or others. Heard every day in catholic school and again on Sunday.

1971 October the VN VETs in Miami Dade marine tech program taught me how to register for the draft = saved.
      1. Record shared address then move or just use address of house with renters.
      2. Your parents are dead
      3. You do not have a phone line and number because costs money so no problem just carry dime in 5th pocket = pay phones are secret.
      4. You are not in school and not working = no addresses = work for cash = PT jobs back then paid cash in little envelope on Friday.
      5. Don the highest ranking VN VET in our program went with me to register. Because recruiters for all services lined the area outside registration office. Don said get away from my buddy
Dad said never trust institutions and the military = slave based on 5 years in Navy signed up for 4 years.

I am of the generation that attended funerals of older classmates and friends. Their Mothers sat in back of church and cried every week in 1960s & early 1970s. You ask why because the Dads said sign up be like me son. Not my Dad. Another issue not discussed suicide of the 18 to 25 men before and after VN and NO JOBS. I personally knew 5 including my best friend all died of self inflicted shotgun blasts. I left Buffalo NY at 17 and went to Miami with money saved since 13 no parent support. Yes all those years of VN in life magazine encourage me to think escape. Get a number and wait or just disappear.
The U.S. military draft ended with the authority to induct expiring on June 30, 1973, following President Richard Nixon’s 1973 legislation that ended conscription in favor of an all-volunteer force. The last draft call occurred on December 7, 1972, though some men were still drafted until the official end date in 1973.
PS I bagged president Nixon’s meats at Key Biscayne FoodFair

Now safe to return home. I walked around the mountain for a couple years. Never climb the institutional mountains. Enrolled in community college night school winter 1973 for calculus & physics. Next full time fall of 1973 completed 1975 AAS chemical technology & engineering, 1976 BA Chemistry, 1978 MA Chemistry GTA so free tuition and $100/week. SUNY colleges were $300 to $400 per semester and NYS TAP paid full tuition for 8 semesters if system worked properly.

  4. Super good Catherine and John, still listing. On the Trump Corp Colluders, I forget, how much did Musk give Trump and what was the value of all the data he got??? Catherine I bet you know how much he gave and could take a wild guess on the value of all the data. Then the spat between them and Musk is out with the deal complete. Pretty slick and so many bought the bull hook line and sinker.

  5. RE : Gaza drone technology in use elsewhere. A week or two ago I read a report of an assassination by drone somewhere in Gaza. The target was a male nurse working in a hospital ward. The drone shot him through a window.
I seems to me that the next escalation is to add AI facial recognition and yet another human control is removed from the enforcement loop.

  6. Trump’s Tweeted attacks on US cattlemen likely did irreparable damage to that portion of his base, especially given his claims were more baseless than normal.

Corbitt Wall hosts “The Feeder Flash,” which gets a lot of influential viewers in the animal ag industry, and has been a vocal, die-hard Trump supporter. His blunt take the morning after Trump mouthed off was, “I love Trump, but he doesn’t know shit about agriculture.” (it’s a clip to play on repeat!)

Sec. Rollins is still saving face for the administration among farmers and ranchers, but that won’t hold if policy starts to rankle them. Cattle producers in particular do it for love of the lifestyle, but they’re not addicted to poverty, so even die-hard Trump supporters will turn on him if he favors foreign beef or the packers (JBS, et al).

As for the other alpha males Catherine mentioned, I’m frankly stumped. Trump Derangement Syndrome equally infects both diehards and detractors . . . I’ve almost given up on discussing him w/them, I just ask, “Remind me when Trump fell out w/the Clintons?”

My recollection remains cloudy on that . . . as if it never happened.

    1. There is more going on with the cattlemen. In the cattle markets the price of newly weened calves has gotten incredibly to something like $1900 when a fully grown cow is $4000. So everyone with a herd, and this includes dairy farmers sell off their calves instead of using them to restock their herds. I just learned this at a review by the California Dairy board. It is part of the reason the beef prices are skyrocketing. I asked where these calves were going and the speak said feed lots but this answer made no sense to me and didn’t explain the inflated prices. Knowing the assault on beef by private equity and people that want to feed you bugs and fake meat, it just is something strange. I don’t know enough about the markets to understand but it seems like another type of economic attack on our food system.

      1. Attacking ranching – one of the last quintessentially American means of individual income/employment – does seems par for the course w/PE and the fake meat (food) agenda. Fits the centralized future state they envision, where they herd everyone into cities and harvest their productivity.

I have heard of heifer retention, and heifer prices are rising, but even if the tide turns the market fundamentals will leave beef prices (long depressed by big packer manipulation) high for a long time since the nat’l herd is at or near all-time lows. Rollins said she won’t push subsidies for heifer retention after producers raised a stink about market distortions, but if The Orange One gets paid he’ll push whatever nonsense . . . we just saw 44 pages of receipts.

      2. Got several reports of tech people buying herds in Montana and Idaho at above market prices and sending them immediately off to be slaughtered.

        1. Any notion of their motives? Savvy capitalists buy low and sell high, and they fancy themselves (cartel) capitalists, but that sounds like a smokescreen for other goals.

          1. Control of food supply – essential for controlling financial transactions.

  7. Hi Catherine,
If one is Canadian, can one invest in the Solari screens through Parvin? If not, is there a Canadian equivalent or someone who I can contact in Canada? Looking for ways to stop forging my own and my children’s chains but being able to individually comb through stock after stock as a busy mother and wife (with a full time job) will take time, potentially years. Looking for a way to streamline this process and educated myself asap…

    1. Christabelle:

Currently no Canadian managers who are using the screen. If that changes will post on the website.

      Catherine
