Thank you for this M & M. And I appreciate all the links given in the comments.
I’m curious to know if any reports of dead birds/sick animals in the area of the Conyers, GA chemical incident have been heard/seen?Thank you.

Do you have more details about the chemical incident?

Anyone else feel a bit queasy hearing Netanyahu utter the word “empathy”?

My observations from the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwestern VA: we were hit hard in some areas, with isolated flooding and widespread power outages, but nothing quite as catastrophic as western NC. Many here are trying to get down to the areas that really need help, but are finding it a struggle to get past the bureaucracy. We even have a FEMA “office” here in our tiny town (one guy on the payroll), but he has done absolutely nothing to try to coordinate relief efforts; just the local churches, for the most part, or small groups and individuals with the ability and willingness to help.
Here’s the ultimate irony: most of these Appalachian types are so much more highly qualified for this type of work than FEMA, any government contractor or even the National Guard. Many have been operating heavy equipment before they had their driver’s license; they own 4 wheelers or 4WD side-by-sides and the trucks/trailers to haul them; they have lived in the mountains all their lives and know how to navigate the terrain in all types of conditions; and, importantly, they are armed against looters and miscreants. But they need to be “vetted” by some pencil-necked geek and most are being told that maybe, by next year, they can get them on the “approved” list.
Meanwhile, the official emphasis seems to have flipped from “rescue operations” to “recovery efforts” – a subtle but important distinction. They’re going straight for “build back better” even as people are still emerging who haven’t had food or water for days. And the LOVE being expressed for Musk and Starlink is off the charts; apparently Starlink is working while other cell services are not and a single subscriber can provide WiFi hotspots for neighbors.
The only silver lining is that even more people are waking up to the fact that not only is the federal government not here to help, they truly make matters worse – and it’s looking pretty intentional.

Mary, Which county are you in? I’m 12 miles from the VA line in NC.

I’m in Willis, Va; southern Floyd County. I’m down in Hillsville/Galax area several times a week (the club where I swim is in Hillsville and I shop in Galax). We should meet up for a cuppa sometime.
