“No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.”
~ Hal Borland
There are two equinoxes every year, in March and September, when the Sun shines directly on the equator, and the length of night and day are nearly equal.
In 2026, the spring equinox happens on March 20 at 10:46 A.M. EDT.
Spring and “springtime” refer to the season, and also to ideas of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection, and regrowth.
In the United States and United Kingdom, spring months are March, April, and May. In Ireland, following the Irish calendar, spring is often defined as February, March, and April.
In Sweden, meteorologists define the beginning of spring as the first occasion on which the average 24 hours temperature exceeds zero degrees Celsius for seven consecutive days; the date varies with latitude and elevation (but no earlier than February 15, and no later than July 31).
