In October, Catherine and a number of Solari team members and subscribers attended the Weston A. Price Foundation’s Wise Traditions conference. This annual event—this year marked 26 years in a row—never disappoints!

The conference represents the visible pinnacle of ongoing, behind-the-scenes work by a number of individuals, but in this post, we’d like to draw attention to the dynamic trio of Sally Fallon Morell (the organization’s president and founder), Kathy Kramer (its long-time executive director), and Kendall Nelson (Wise Traditions podcast host and filmmaker).

Sally Fallon Morell—Hero of the Week on two prior occasions—is no stranger at Solari, having joined us for illuminating interviews with Catherine and on the Food Series and Health Series. In addition to launching the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF), its quarterly Wise Traditions journal, and a vast and effective network of local chapters, Sally has played an instrumental role in expanding U.S. availability of raw milk through WAPF’s “Campaign for Real Milk.” She also owns her own publishing company (New Trends Publishing) and is the prolific author or co-author of 10 books, including her groundbreaking Nourishing Traditions cookbook and her most recent release, the Nourishing Traditions Book of Natural Remedies. As if all of this were not enough, she shares additional insights at her Nourishing Traditions blog.

Kathy Kramer worked her way up to becoming WAPF’s executive director after starting out a number of years ago as a volunteer and then part-time employee handling humble tasks like shipping. As the quiet and diplomatic force who keeps day-to-day operations running smoothly, Kathy cares deeply about WAPF’s mission and continually thinks about ways to broaden the organization’s reach while improving member satisfaction. Several years ago, she was the first recipient of the coveted President’s Award at the Wise Traditions conference.

Kendall Nelson took the helm this year as host and producer of the Wise Traditions podcast, and she has already clocked 30 fascinating discussions, including an episode with Catherine in early October. Kendall also serves as WAPF’s vaccine policy expert and regularly contributes vaccine-related articles to the Wise Traditions journal.

In addition, Kendall is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, and as such, she is directing and producing what promises to be one of WAPF’s most exciting contributions yet—a documentary titled The Greatest Gift, which will retrace Dr. Weston A. Price’s discoveries and reveal how WAPF’s teachings “hold the key to solving infertility, raising healthy babies and tackling the growing health challenges facing our children and society today.” At Solari, we have already determined that this film will be at the top of our list of recommended Christmas donations this year.

We would be hard-pressed to think of another organization that does so much with so little (there are only three full-time staff). We congratulate the Weston A. Price Foundation and our three heroes for their outsized impact on the food, health, and financial freedom landscape—and we look forward to more landmark accomplishments in the coming years, including the release of The Greatest Gift.
