Let’s Go to the Movies: Week of December 26, 2022: Love Actually
A wonderful example of cinematographic “Affektenlehre,” our movie of the week delves into a whirlwind of emotion and romance as the plot presents the many aspects of love that we encounter in the various stages of life.
Love Actually is a 2003 romantic comedy that comes with a full cast of movie stars—including Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Bill Nighy, Colin Firth, and many others—and a delightful and variegated story line with lots of happy endings.
Take time out, make popcorn, have some champagne, and watch this charming Christmas movie with someone you love. You won’t regret it.

We watch this movie every year and “bought” on Amazon years ago. This year we noted they had edited out the scene w Bill Nye dancing mostly naked after he loses the bet. Haha, even the most woke movies are not immune. Also, of all things to edit out, that scene is pretty tame. We will be sorting thru the bins at our used book/movie store for the DVD.
In the minority, I know, but I’m not a fan. Popcorn yes, and Emma, and a much more appealing Alan Rickman, in “Sense and Sensibility” for me.
Love Bill Nighy. “About Time” is a lovely Christmas choice.
One of my all time feel good favorites
My husband and I watch this one every year. It has been one of my favorites for many years, and it’s now one of his. Love really is all around, isn’t it? Thank you for sharing this!
This was a “no go” for us as well. Although thematically it has some strong qualities it relied heavily on sexual content and crude humor. Definitely not family friendly.
