The Solari Team is in Milan, Italy, celebrating the successful completion of the first Solari Builders learning year. What a wonderful group of young people it is, with such a variety of talents, interests, and competencies. Among them are entrepreneurs, journalists, authors, a poet, and yes, also a composer.

Two hundred fifty years ago, another “builder” sojourned in Milan, and he was even younger than our cohort of up-and-coming wealth builders. In fact, he is among the immortals who have built wealth for humanity—none other than Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Mozart was a teenager of only 16 years of age when he traveled to Milan for the premiere of his opera Lucio Silla, which had opened at the Teatro Regio Ducale—Milan’s main opera house—in December 1772. The Teatro burned down a few years after Mozart’s premiere and was replaced by the famous La Scala.

Mozart composed Exsultate, jubilate (K. 165), a short Latin motet for solo soprano, orchestra, and organ, in January 1773, writing it not primarily for a church service but to showcase the virtuosic voice of a specific singer. Venanzio Rauzzini was a celebrated Italian castrato and had just sung the lead male role in Lucio Silla. Mozart was so enthusiastic about his exceptional voice that he wrote the Exsultate, jubilate to display Rauzzini’s full range and agility.
