“Once upon a time, a little girl went out to find the Christmas star.”
~ Journey to the Christmas Star
This Norwegian family fantasy film from 2012, dubbed in English, includes, “all the classic elements of a fairy tale, including a missing princess, gnomes, a witch, a talking bear, and even Father Christmas.” It is based on a 1924 play and is a remake (made in cooperation with Disney) of a beloved 1976 film version shown annually on Norwegian TV on Christmas Eve.
Common Sense Media recommends Journey’s positive message—“that everyone can find the Christmas star (really a symbol for Christmas spirit) if they open their hearts.”
Journey to the Christmas Star was the fifth-most-viewed movie in Norway in 2012 (beating out the Bond release, Skyfall!). If you like the perennial Solari favorite, The NeverEnding Story, you are likely to enjoy this one as well.
